In Sotto La Luna Gardenia by Tauer Perfumes, a bit of the literal is denied to make way for the phantasmal. The white floral heart of this fragrance forms a rhapsody of sensations. Here an earthy, musky, buttery, and vanilla-tinged gardenia note is sprinkled in moon dust, a cosmic glitter that coats the petals of this flower gorgeously.

The result is remarkably simple yet effective – perfumer Andy Tauer leans on the need to recreate the smell of gardenia (as it yields no smell) so to become a creative opportunity; the locus of great imaginative activity. Perfume is here the lie that for once does not serve to reveal the truth – but to embrace realms of the creative imagination that convince us of their very real possibility. In Sotta La Luna Gardenia, it is possible to imagine a precious flower bathing in the dazzling and textured light of the moon and stars, growing on a lunar surface amongst craters and searing asteroids.
This is a gardenia of fantasy but also immense wearability. It is indeed made up of very real material: flowers, vanilla, tonka, and even sandalwood, moss, and musks to become a luscious white floral bouquet. However, its effects – bigger than its parts – are definitely cosmic.
